Both Xeomin and Botox are botulinum toxin type A treatments — meaning they work by the same mechanism to temporarily relax the facial muscles responsible for expression lines. In practice, most patients see highly comparable results. The differences lie in formulation, and in certain clinical nuances that matter more for some patients than others.
At Alpha Medical Limassol, we offer Botox, Xeomin, and Daxxify — so we have no vested interest in recommending one over another. This comparison is written to help you understand the genuine clinical differences, so you and your physician can make the most informed decision for your face.
The Result: Smooth, Rested, Natural — With Either
The primary goal of any botulinum toxin treatment is a natural softening of dynamic lines — the frown lines between the brows, forehead lines, crow's feet, and other areas of repetitive muscle movement. When administered by a skilled physician, the result with both Xeomin and Botox is the same: a rested, refreshed appearance that does not look frozen or overdone.
Where you will notice a difference is in onset and duration. Botox typically begins to take effect within 3–5 days, with full results at 2 weeks, lasting 3–4 months. Xeomin has a similar profile, sometimes with a slightly later onset in some patients.
- Both produce natural-looking relaxation of dynamic expression lines
- Both last approximately 3–4 months for most patients
- Both require no downtime and take under 20 minutes in-clinic
- Results are highly dependent on physician technique — the product is secondary
The Formulation Difference
The key formulation difference is that Xeomin is a 'naked' botulinum toxin — it contains only the active neurotoxin without the complexing proteins that surround it in Botox. These complexing proteins are inert and do not affect efficacy in standard use, but some physicians believe that the absence of accessory proteins in Xeomin may reduce the theoretical risk of developing antibody resistance over time.
For most patients having occasional botulinum toxin treatments, this distinction is academic. For those who are long-term, frequent users — particularly patients who have high dosage requirements — the Xeomin formulation may be worth discussing with your physician.
What About Daxxify?
Alpha Medical also offers Daxxify — a newer botulinum toxin formulation with a significantly longer duration, clinically demonstrated to last up to 6 months in many patients. For those who prefer to treat less frequently while maintaining the same quality of result, Daxxify is worth considering. Your physician will discuss all three options during your consultation.
