Sculptra in Limassol: The Slow-Build Collagen Treatment for a Hollowing Face

Medical Aesthetics

Physician-led aesthetic treatments in Limassol, Cyprus — book a consultation to find the right treatment for your skin.

Most people notice it first in photographs. The face looks a little more tired than it feels, the temples have flattened, the cheeks sit lower, and the jawline is less crisp than it was five years ago. None of it is a wrinkle you can point at. It is the slow loss of collagen and fat that holds the face up.

Sculptra treats exactly that, and it works in an unusual way. It is injected like a filler, yet it leaves almost nothing behind; your skin builds the result over the following months. This guide explains how Sculptra works, where it helps, how it compares with fillers and Radiesse, what the sessions involve and how we use it at Alpha Medical in Limassol.

How Sculptra works

Sculptra is poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA): tiny biodegradable microparticles suspended in a gel. The gel is absorbed within days, which is why the immediate fullness after treatment fades quickly. The microparticles stay behind in the deep layers of the skin, where they trigger a controlled repair response. Fibroblasts gather around them and lay down new collagen, mostly the sturdy type I collagen that gives skin its structure.

Over the following months the particles break down into lactic acid and are cleared by the body. What remains is your own new collagen. That is why results arrive gradually and why they last far longer than most hyaluronic acid fillers.

What the evidence shows

In a randomised study comparing Sculptra with a collagen filler for nasolabial folds, the improvement with poly-L-lactic acid was greater and was still present at the 13-month follow-up, long after the collagen filler had faded. A later randomised, double-blind study found that PLLA injected into the cheeks also improved skin quality, not only volume.

In day-to-day practice the pattern is consistent: little change in the first weeks, visible improvement from about six weeks, and the full result at three to six months. Results commonly last two years or more.

Areas we treat with Sculptra

Sculptra is a whole-face treatment rather than a line-by-line one. It suits areas where volume has gone over a broad surface:

  • Hollow temples, which age the face more than most people realise
  • Flattened cheeks and the sides of the face
  • The pre-jowl area and a softening jawline
  • Chin volume loss
  • Thinning, crepey skin on the face after significant weight loss
  • Selected body areas such as the buttocks and the décolletage

Sculptra, fillers or Radiesse?

Hyaluronic acid fillers give an instant, precise result and can be dissolved, which makes them the better tool for lips, tear troughs and fine shaping. Sculptra is for broad, gradual restoration where you would rather no one could point to a change. Radiesse sits in between: it gives some immediate lift and also stimulates collagen. Our Radiesse vs Sculptra comparison covers that choice in detail.

Sculptra cannot be dissolved once placed, so technique matters. We do not use it in the lips or close around the eyes, and we choose a hyaluronic acid filler for any area where you want a defined shape on the day.

What a course looks like at Alpha Medical

Your physician assesses the face at rest and in movement, looks at how much volume has been lost and where, and plans the number of vials and sessions. The product is prepared well ahead of treatment so the particles are fully suspended, which helps it spread evenly.

On the day the skin is cleansed and numbed, and Sculptra is placed with a fine cannula or needle in the deep layers. A session takes about 30 to 45 minutes. Most patients need two to four sessions spaced four to six weeks apart.

Afterwards you massage the treated areas for five minutes, five times a day, for five days. It sounds fussy, but it is one of the things that keeps the result smooth and even.

Recovery and who it suits

Expect swelling and some tenderness for a day or two, and possibly small bruises. The swelling makes you look fuller at first; that fades within days and the real change begins a few weeks later. Most people return to work the next day.

Sculptra suits people from their late thirties onward who are losing volume and skin firmness, men and women who have lost weight quickly with GLP-1 treatment and see a hollower face, and anyone who wants improvement that friends will put down to good sleep. Plan it outside pregnancy and breastfeeding. Patients come to our Limassol clinic from Nicosia, Larnaca and Paphos, and many combine Sculptra with a skin booster or Profhilo over the same course.
